The Friends of Victoria Park are excited to announce the 2019 Lantern Festival

The Friends of Victoria Park are excited to announce the 2019 Lantern Festival on Saturday, July 27, 2019, in historic Victoria Park located in the west end of downtown in the City of St. John’s.

For nineteen years, families and visitors have been attending this extremely unique festival which has become one of the City’s signature cultural events. This year’s festival promises to be another memorable event, with many favourites from the past along with some new surprises.

The Lantern Festival will begin at 2:00 PM in the lower park in front of the Pool House with local entertainment, face painting, a kid’s gaming zone, lantern jar making workshop, belly dancers, a yoga and tai chi workshop, and more. We also have an exciting lineup of musical performers that will be performing throughout the day on our sound stage, including Rachel Cousins, Luke Mercer and Scalliwag. At dusk, we invite you to take a seat on the grass and watch this spectacle unfold or grab a lantern and participate in our parade leading to the upper park and around the amazing, glowing lantern installations.

As the clock strikes 9:15 PM, join us for a five-star show from a one-star solar system! Witness some of St. John’s finest fire performers from the past, present and future, as they hula hoop and juggle their way back through time in an astronomical fire and light show display. With astronauts, aliens and pyrotechnic dinosaurs breaking the space-time continuum, this will surely be a Lantern Festival show for the ages!

Admission to the Lantern Festival is free, although volunteers will be collecting donations, so we encourage folks to bring a loonie or two. Canteen service, BBQ, Snow Cones, Popcorn and Cotton Candy will be available throughout the day and evening in the lower park. We will also have our Official 2019 Lantern Festival T-Shirts, jar lanterns, and other great merchandise available for purchase throughout the park.

The Victoria Park Lantern Festival is organized by the Friends of Victoria Park (FOVP) in partnership with the City of St. John’s.
